(SGI) - The Ministry of Transport proposes three investment options for the development of the North-South high-speed railway.

The first option involves constructing a new double-track railway with a gauge of 1,435 mm, operating at a speed of 350 km/h, exclusively for passenger trains, and upgrading the existing North-South railway line for freight transport.

The second option suggests building a new double-track railway with a gauge of 1,435 mm, running at a speed of 250 km/h, catering to both freight and passenger trains. The third option proposes a new double-track railway with a gauge of 1,435 mm, operating at a speed of 350 km/h for passenger trains, with the flexibility to transport goods as needed. Simultaneously, the existing North-South railway line would undergo upgrades to enhance freight transport capabilities.

According to the report, investing in the North-South high-speed railway would help relieve the existing North-South railway line from the concentrated passenger transport function, allowing it to focus on freight transportation. Additionally, it would establish connections with seaports, road transportation hubs, meeting the demands of large-scale cargo transportation. This includes various types of goods with specific requirements for conditions, transportation speed, addressing the high logistics costs in Vietnam.
